Like a birthright to steer towards the sun.
But should I have realized how weighted my heart is. In front of it, that simple and beautiful being almost turns into an unbearable lightness. I look over, no, ashore now, and fathom how the leaves might be trembled a little by a soul mired in anguish.
I dare not. I wish not. Let serenity reigns over the pristine mind, only to be overwhelmed by art.
Longing, silent and resigned.
If this is a response to Brahms's Sinfonie Nr.4, then you are right on many points. But Brahms is a man who loved Clara for his entire life, and this is unbelievable for me. He should said something at some points in his mid-40 (a decade after he befriended the Schumanns, not too long, not too short). At least I think if I am Brahms I would do that. Probably something you don't know is that, many German used to despise Brahms as a person, whose "Tragic Overture" used to be marred as a work "with the nothing tragic but the composer's own cowardness".
ReplyDeleteI am endorsing nor negating Brahms, but he is unfathomable to me.
It is not just a comment on Sinfonie Nr.4. But I will applaud you for "saying something" if you are in his shoes. I am moved to tears exactly for he knows love too well to treat it as impulsive confessions, yet with infinite tenderness.
ReplyDeleteWell you must be quite unfathomable to a lot of people too. You are like E.T. to me. (maybe you never saw it..again)
Yeah. I know I am a weirdo. Everyone says that... anyway, I am myself. I am really inconsistent.
ReplyDeleteFor Brahms, music is not a business. He treats music as his ONLY venue for emotional confession, yet so limited, by his own afraidness of exposing his inner secret, to only the classical, and meticulous form.
ReplyDeletePS: to some extant, I am glad I am an E.T. to you. Anyway, that's better than some bad guys to be despised.
E.T. is the cutest creature ever invented that brings enormous happiness to the world. (if only I met one....)
ReplyDeletewhat do you think, if that post was actually from "Clara"'s view?
P.S. You are not weird. You just know how to say "I ".
Clara might not love Brahms as he loves her. She got angry at him several times while Brahms never was angry at her. I don't really know much about Clara. Anyway, she still has Schumann but Brahms has no one
ReplyDeleteJust saying..Brahms made outrageous comments on female musicians before and he was "devoted" to prostitutes..honestly I felt sad for him and Clara as a couple. But I wouldn't judge on another level since Brahms, as a backward looking man, gave birth to the music for the future.
